Roll Forge Progress
8 months ago – Mon, Feb 12, 2024 at 04:58:35 PM

Hey there backers,

Just an update on the progress of Roll Forge. We have made a few modifications and improvements along the way. Our intention is to create the best dice making kit possible. Starting with the most important elements: the silicone mold, the anvil mold clamp, and the epoxy resin.

Silicone Mold - After more testing and feedback we have made a few improvements. Adding a top tooth in the middle for resin to escape. Cutting the D6 part in 2 vertical halves for easy release and widening the thin walls near the d6 and d4 and the hole in between them. This will make the mold much stronger and durable. On the bottom, the seam lines have been brought up closer to the middle to make it more grabbable & easy to take apart.
We have already created the changes to the 3d silicone model and this is being made into testable silicone molds for us to make dice. From there we can determine if we need to make any more changes or improvements. However we feel quite confident that this should be the final one but testing is key to be 100% sure.

Anvil Clamp - Added a pocket on the very bottom to make it light and increase "grabbability". Added a hole arch on the long side for grabbing better too. The rails for rubber band were made wider and moved slightly to make it easier to align the top and bottom parts of the clamp. The last change was adding a thin material layer that will make it easier to remove hardened resin that has overflowed from the mold. For this we are trying a few different materials but a layer of silicon will be the best solution. Again we will be testing as soon as the prototype samples come in.

Epoxy Resin - The quality and specification of the resin matter a lot. Choosing the right resin can reduce bubble problems, ensure colour stay true, and be safer to work with. Right now we are testing a few from manufacturers and even got one to make us a special formulated one, just for dice making. The main two things we are looking for is a low viscosity (of about 150-300 cps) and "low VOC". Low viscosity resin will trap bubbles much less and reduce the bubbles that people see in their dice. A low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) resin will release significantly less toxic compounds into the air than other epoxy resins. While it will still need to be used in an area with good ventilation, it will be safer to use. We are testing many many samples and once we are set on one we can be sure you’re getting the most awesome resin possible for ultimate dice making!

BackerKit Survey - As several backers requested for additional time to complete their surveys, we've extended the deadline until Friday, February 23rd and card charges will be processed on Friday, March 1st.

Ok that is all from us for now but we will share more information as we have it. We know you're all super keen to start dice making and we are doing our best to deliver Roll Forge as soon as possible! However we hope the extra effort and time is worthwhile so we can produce something truly special for all of you!

Hey Backers,

As we near the end of our campaign, we're happy to share some exciting updates:

Survey Results for Additional Crafting Materials: A huge thank you to the backers who participated in our survey! The winning materials, the Little Crystal Fish and Mini Evil & Dragon Eye, have already made their way to our add-ons section.

Free Gift for Campaign Contributors: We've learned from some of our fellow Kickstarter creators the importance of showing appreciation to our backers who help us spread the word. If you're as excited about Roll Forge as we are and share our campaign with your family, friends, fellow dice enthusiasts, or on your social media platforms, we have a special gift for you. Just let us know in the comment section below that you've shared our campaign. Providing the link is a bonus but not required! (Please make sure you comment below this update for easy tracking.)

Retailer Pledge Level: Responding to requests, we've created a reward tier for our retailers. 35% discount for orders over $1000 AUD, and 50% off if your orders surpass $1500. There will also be a 25% discount on all shipping costs in this reward tier.

Video Update: Both tutorial videos are now live on our campaign page, at the end of "FORGE DICE" section. The first one is a beginner-friendly guide to dice making, while the second part explores different techniques to minimise bubbles in your dice.

Thanks for all your support it means the world to us!
